Ayurvedic Summer Spiced Chai

02.18.2013 by Celia //

ayurvedic summer chaiAyurvedic Summer Spiced Chai

Tea for two Mix:
1 pinch fennel or anise seed
2 green cardamom pods
2 cloves
1/4 cinnamon stick
thin slice fresh ginger root

2 Cups water
1/2-1/2 Cup organic milk
1-2 Tspns Raw Sugar/or honey

Boil 5 minutes, then steep 10 minutes

Add, 2 Tbsp Darjeeling Tea, bring to a boil, and simmer 5 minutes.
Add milk and sugar last and heat only gently. (If using honey, add only after cooling tea to 75 degrees)
Sip mindfully and Enjoy!!!

For Coffee Drinkers

Add a pinch of cardamom and nutmeg to ground coffee and brew with the spices. The spices help to mitigate the adverse effects of coffee. Have your coffee with organic milk and a little raw sugar to balance its bitter and drying qualities.
NOTE: If you are heavily vata (cold, anxious & flighty) or pitta (hot, driven and intense), go for the chai above instead of the coffee.
