Apanasana – both knees to the chest.
Focusing on the downward flow of energy in this posture we are working deeply into the lower colon and the Enteric Nervous System. The ENS influences the brain by passing signals along the vagus nerve and producing a wide range of hormones such as dopamine and serotonin. Intriguingly, about 95 percent of the serotonin present in the body at any time is in the ENS. Serotonin (the feel good hormone) is involved in preventing depression, regulating sleep, appetite and body temperature.
