Health Boon

10.07.2015 by Celia //

The Health Boon of Quiet

There are some amazing benefits to stopping, to removing one self’s from the normal zoom.

Creating an inner quiet, an inner spaciousness can add years to your life.

Through meditation – reducing the radio non-stop thinking – and by taking the time to return to a natural environment that is free of background or low level noise, there is a health boon that has really been kept quiet.

Meditation is proven to have anti-ageing affects on us all, by reducing the wear and tear on our telomeres, the little caps that protect our DNA. We look younger and feel younger for taking time to meditate in the quiet.

Stress levels are heightened by background noise in our work, home and school environments and can aggravate stress related conditions such as anxiety, high blood pressure, heart disease, peptic ulcers and migraines. Unfortunately, continued exposure does not lead to habituation, rather the effects worsen. Our capacity to think clearly and retain information is also adversely affected by environmental noise. Too much noise raises the levels of our stress hormone cortisol and that can impair the function of the pre-frontal cortex in our brain.

So switch off, internally and externally. Not surprisingly, your productivity is enhanced. Your concentration, planning, memory, accuracy will improve.

Listen deeply to the sound of silence. It is the latest health boon of Quiet.
