The greatest way to open your heart is to give true compassion to all beings, which is called “metta” in the Buddhist traditions.
Compassion is the antidote to anger, fear, greed, and delusion, and has been practiced throughout the centuries to heal minds and hearts all over the World.
One of the easiest ways to open our hearts is to look for commonalities with our friends and all beings. When we feel empathy for another through our common shared experience, we foster social harmony in a fairly effortless way.
Wishing others well, or helping them compassionately, makes us feel good and affects brain chemistry positively. Positive well wishes have the ability to heal, even with distance. Your thoughts not only affect you, but all those around you.
Start by offering yourself the deepest compassion. Then offer it to someone you love, even someone who you don’t even know very well, and most importantly towards those to whom you hold frustration. Always finish by bring compassion back to yourself.
When you truly can offer yourself compassion, your heart begins to open to all.
Take part on The Compassion Experiment, and offer your wise heart to unite all.
