We hit the Botanical Gardens to catch up with three incredible yoga teachers who studied at YIMI three years ago now. They have set up the most amazing experience at the Mt Cootha Botanical Gardens – all for free. Free yoga classes run in the open air on Saturday afternoons at 4pm -5pm.
I brought my girls for a family yoga session. My mum always goes along and just loves it too. It is just so lovely to have the sky above you and the earth beneath you and only a mat between the heaven’s and earth as you practice. Most importantly, these ladies are devoted yogis with an incredible knowledge base, who know how to look after you…
Anne Noonan is a teacher who set up classes all over Brisbane for the over 50’s and is health promoter and educator. She is a hoot, with a wonderful presence!
Tatiana Krutak is a yoga teacher who is vivacious, kind and fun, and incredibly smart. With a background in engineering, she knows how to engineer your body in incredible ways!
Margaret Francis-Cairns is a yoga teacher who did her training without a flutter of an eyelid in her 60’s! She is incredibly calm, devoted, sweet, and able – do not miss her inspirational classes.
Anne Noonan set it all up and you can read about why below:
“I wanted to set it up – 3 years ago now – just as a lovely way to do yoga in a garden. The gardens administrators themselves were more than happy to have me there and have advertised the classes for me without charge as it’s totally a community service. It’s not even under Active Parks – it’s really my vision that spread to Tania and Marg as an every Saturday ‘for the love of yoga’ service. My vision was maybe a handful of 10 or less people every now and then. It started with 3, then the week later it was about 6 and then before we know it, it’s almost 40 on big days. It’s just amazing. We attract all ages and all levels, but because it’s slightly uneven ground and of course no walls or hard floor, we keep it reasonably beginner to intermediate level.
I have people there who’ve been coming regularly every single Saturday for all that time and the community is really beautiful. Everyone walks away with that ‘OMG that was so lovely’ feeling. I think that’s because they’ve centred, earthed and got some good grounding along with the yoga”
